Tinubu Renames University of Maiduguri After Buhari
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renaming of the University of Maiduguri to Muhammadu Buhari University, in honour of the late former president.
The announcement was made during a Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja and was later confirmed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, through a statement on his official social media handle.
The decision is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to commemorate the legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away recently. As part of the national mourning period, Tuesday, July 15, was declared a public holiday, and national flags are to be flown at half-mast for seven days from Sunday, July 13.
Speaking at the tribute event, President Tinubu described Buhari as a man of deep integrity, admired for both his public service and personal conduct.
“His private life reflected his true greatness—pious without show, humane without sentimentality, and sincere without guile,” Tinubu stated. “He was a rebuke to vice and a refuge for virtue.”
