Tinubu Approves Subsidized Dialysis for Nigerians Across 11 Hospitals

President Bola Tinubu has initiated a kidney dialysis subsidy, significantly reducing treatment costs from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 for Nigerians.

The program is being implemented in federal medical institutions across all six geopolitical zones, including the Federal Medical Centres in Ebute-Metta, Jabi, Abeokuta, Owerri, and Azare, as well as other major teaching hospitals like LUTH Lagos, UCH Ibadan, UMTH Maiduguri, UBTH Benin, and UCTH Calabar.

Launched in January at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, the subsidy has brought immense relief to patients, according to Hammatu Haruna, a renal center manager. She noted improved patient conditions and shared that the program has already benefited 35 individuals, with adequate resources provided by the federal health ministry.

This development comes amidst rising kidney failure cases in Nigeria, prompting investigations into the causes, including environmental and lifestyle factors, by a team of local and international health experts.
