FG Awards N198 Billion Zaria-Kasa Road Contract

The Federal Government has awarded a N198 billion contract to Mothercat Nigeria Limited for the construction of the Zaria-Ukui-Kolomani-Dan Bali-Maraba-Kanya-Subawa-Kasa Road, which passes through Kaduna and Katsina States.

This project is expected to be completed within 36 months. The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during a briefing on road projects approved at the latest Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

While discussing the development, Umahi stated, “We also have the big one. The big one is a fresh contract, and it is the construction of a road from Zaria-Ukui-Kolomani-Dan Bali-Maraba-Kanya-Subawa-Kasa, which is in Kaduna and Katsina. The total contract is N198 billion in favor of Mothercat Nigeria Limited for a construction period of 36 months.”

In addition to this, the FEC approved twelve other road projects across the country. One such project is the Kano-Maiduguri Road, specifically the Kano-Wudil-Shaurin section located in Kano State. This contract, previously managed by Dantata and Sawoe, has been re-awarded to Tractor Nigeria Limited for N128.395 billion and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Further approvals include the rehabilitation of the Aakalari-Ukuk Road in Bauchi State, with Phase 1 scheduled for completion in six months at a cost of N11.278 billion. In Imo and Anambra States, the Oba-Nnewi-Arondizuogu-Okigwe Road has been rescoped, with Phase 1 valued at N8.405 billion and a six-month completion target. The Iyin-Ilawe-Ekiti Road, handled by Kinley Global Venture Limited, had its contract sum corrected from N13.736 billion to N15.626 billion following an error from the Ministry of Works.

Other notable projects include the construction of the Ilogu Road linking Kwara and Osun States, with Phase 1 approved at N7.556 billion. The Wukari-Akwana Road in Taraba State is now set for Phase 1 completion in six months at a cost of N12.615 billion. The Bida-Lapaya-Lambda Road in Niger State underwent a contract review to N39.493 billion, and its first phase is also expected to be completed within six months. Similarly, the Gada-Zamazuru-Gamji Road in Kebbi State was rescoped and its contract value adjusted to N11.976 billion for completion within six months.

In Oyo State, the reconstruction of the Kamakish Road was approved for N12.35 billion with a one-year completion timeframe. Finally, the Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road’s dualization project is advancing in phases, with the initial phase now set at a contract value of N30 billion.

Altogether, these 13 road infrastructure projects amount to a total cost of N484.254 billion, showcasing the government’s commitment to enhancing the nation’s road network.
