Teachers Strike: Ebonyi Commissioner Blames LG Chairmen For Paying Half Salary

Following the strike by the Nigeria Union of teachers in Ebonyi state yesterday, the state commissioner for primary and secondary Education, Professor Paul Nwobasi has blamed the local Government chairmen for not complying to the directive of the state Governments by paying deducted gross salaries of the teachers

Nwobasi who disclosed this to journalist during the press briefing on Friday at Abakaliki,the state capital said seven out of the thirteen Local chairmen have not been enable to pay the deducted salaries of the teachers .

He, however assured that all necessary step would be taken to ensure the seven local government chairmen comply paying teachers not only the net salaries by also the gross salaries.

The commissioner said he would be having meeting with NUT leadership and ALGON chairman in the state to be ensure that all outstanding salaries and deductions qis cleared .

“The issue here is that if you are a civil servant, you are entitled to a gross salary and in the gross salary there are issues and deductions that meant that salary then when those deductions are made you have the net salary.

“Teachers have paid their net salaries whereas the deduction in the most local government areas have not been paid and that is the bone of the contention but right now most of the local government chairmen have paid those deductions that is why you hear that seven Local Government areas have not paid. That’s where we are trying to reconcile but believe me this time around, I will give you number of people that have actually comply”. Nwabosi said
