How Delta State Government Suspended SSA Over Alleged Fraudulent Activities

The Delta State Government has suspended Ms. Favour Obakoro, also known as Vida Modelo, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Morals and Diaspora Affairs, following allegations of fraudulent activities.

The suspension, announced through a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, is effective immediately. The decision is aimed at allowing security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the accusations against her.

Obakoro, who has come under intense scrutiny in recent days, is accused of exploiting her position to fraudulently secure funds from individuals seeking work permits to work abroad. It is reported that she collected over N100 million from several victims, promising them legitimate work permits that were never delivered.

The allegations were first brought to light by Nigerian activist and social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan. In a viral video, Otse accused Obakoro of using her office to scam people, particularly from the Diaspora, into paying large sums for fake work permits. He claimed that the victims were promised legitimate services but received nothing in return after making payments.

Some victims have come forward with specific details of their transactions, revealing amounts ranging from 1.5 million naira to 10 million naira. One victim reported sending 5 million naira, while others claimed that they transferred a total of over N70 million to Obakoro’s personal account. Despite the payments, the victims were left without the promised documents, and when they attempted to demand either their money back or the work permits, Obakoro allegedly used her influence to avoid fulfilling her commitments.

Disturbingly, some of the victims have produced recordings of phone conversations with Obakoro, in which she allegedly assured them that their requests would be fulfilled, using her official position to gain their trust. The revelations have sparked public outrage, with many questioning the integrity of Obakoro’s role within the government, especially given her association with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who has recently been recognized for his positive contributions to the state’s infrastructure and governance.

The suspension of Obakoro comes as a response to these grave allegations, and the government has pledged to fully cooperate with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation. It is expected that further details will emerge as the inquiry progresses. Meanwhile, the reputation of Governor Oborevwori, who has been praised for his leadership and development initiatives, may be at risk if the claims are substantiated.

As the investigation unfolds, the Delta State Government has assured the public that any individuals found guilty of corruption or misconduct will be held accountable.
