Police Arrest 2,322 Suspects, Recover Arms, Charges About 900 to Court

Not fewer than 2,322 suspects were arrested by the Bauchi state police command over alleged various offenses in the state last year.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi state Command, Auwal Musa Muhammad who stated this while briefing newsmen on the successes recorded by his command in 2024 in his office on Monday, said a total of 1,182 cases were recorded, resulting in the arrest of 2,322 suspects.

According to him, out of figure 678 cases and 895 suspects were subsequently charged to court.

The CP stated that 48 cases involving 82 suspects culminated in successful convictions, adding that 396 cases involving 816 suspects remain pending trial, while 30 cases are currently under investigation.

The Commissioner further explained that the Command documented 73 cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) during the period under review.

He said 23 AK-47 rifles, 4 G-3 riffles, 3 SMG riffles and 22 fabricated or cut-to-size firearms were recovered as exhibits.

The CP further disclosed that 5 fabricated pistols, 746 live ammunitions of various calibres, 32 magazine and 100 cartridges were also seized as exhibits.

Other exhibits recovered from the suspects, the CP said are 68 cutlasses, 26) Knives, 10 motor vehicles, 29 motorcycles, 69 handsets, 28 tricycles and cash amounting to 22,038,000 Naira.

He stressed that the successes were facilitated through critical information provided by the public, who remain essential partners in the effort to ensure a safe and secure environment.

The Commissioner stated that the Command has implemented crime prevention measures that integrate both traditional practices and scientific methodologies, including consistent intelligence-led policing.

“These initiatives have been further enhanced through collaborations with sister security agencies and non-governmental organizations to effectively address all forms of criminal activity in our state”, CP Muhammad noted
