Jail Delivery: Ebonyi CJ Free 15 Inmates, Remand 8

In a recent jail delivery exercise, Ebonyi State’s Chief Judge, Justice Elvis Anegu Ngene, granted freedom to fifteen inmates while reminding eight others in the second edition of the initiative within the state.

The operation took place in the early hours of yesterday at the Ebonyi State Correctional Service command in Abakaliki, the state’s capital.

During the event, Justice Nwegene emphasized that the decision to release the inmates was based on the severity of their cases, allowing those eligible for bail to regain their freedom.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ben Oruchi Odo, commended the Chief Judge for fulfilling his duties and recognized the dedication of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration to ensure that all Ebonyians receive the justice they deserve through the people’s charters of needs mantra.

Dr Odo charged the newly released inmates to stay clear of criminal activities that could lead them back to prison. For the eight individuals who were reminded, Justice Ngene urged them to utilize their time in custody for reflection, with hopes for their eventual rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The state Anthony general said the jail delivery initiative is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to decongest prisons while ensuring fair and timely administration of justice across Ebonyi State. The commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights remains a top priority for the government and judicial authorities involved.
