The United States Consulate in Lagos has highlighted the significant growth in Nigeria-US bilateral trade, which increased from $10 billion to $11.3 billion over the past year.

This was announced during a Thanksgiving event hosted in partnership with the American Business Council (ABC) in Lagos.

US Consul-General, Will Stevens, praised the collaborative efforts of US companies and local partners in strengthening bilateral relations. He remarked, “We’ve seen remarkable growth in our relationship, including a rise in bilateral trade from over $10 billion to $11.3 billion last year.”

Stevens underscored initiatives like EducationUSA, which supports Nigerian students pursuing education in the US, and the establishment of 27 American Spaces to enhance cultural and educational exchanges. He commended US companies for their commitment to Nigeria, noting their investment extends beyond business to uplifting local communities.

Reflecting on his tenure, Stevens stated, “It has been the honour of my life to spend the last two and a half years in Nigeria, witnessing the remarkable growth in our bilateral relationship and working alongside amazing individuals here.”

Margaret Olele, CEO and Executive Secretary of the ABC, reaffirmed the Council’s role in fostering trade and investment between the two nations. “We represent over 91 US companies in Nigeria, focusing on capacity building, social impact, and value creation across various sectors,” she said.

Olele also highlighted a recent partnership with USAID and a Silicon Valley-based start-up university to train Nigerian youths in digital solutions through cybersecurity hackathons, further demonstrating the long-term commitment of US businesses in Nigeria.
